Dr. Bonnie Lee, MD, HS associate clinical professor in the Department of Dermatology, has been praised by her colleagues and residents as a champion for diversity and inclusive excellence. As the residency program director, she works closely with the selection committee to build a diverse residency class.

These residents have described Dr. Lee as a fiercely passionate and genuinely empathetic leader, mentor, teacher and role model. Furthermore, she has worked to make health care more accessible across the board from her clinical work serving Medicaid patients, to her series of YouTube videos on dermatopathology. Her fluency in Mandarin and Spanish also enables her to connect with patients of various backgrounds.

Speaking on her Asian American heritage and mentorship, Dr. Lee stated, “I am lucky to have had Asian American mentors who inspired me to pursue goals that seemed unreachable and instilled confidence that I was worthy. I aspire to be that kind of mentor to others here at UCI where I have found not only an incredibly vibrant Asian American community, but a genuine culture of diversity and inclusivity.”
