UCI Department of Biological Chemistry professor awarded Mallinckrodt Foundation grant Posted: 2020-09-10 Source: UCI Health News Type: Features & Briefs share Cholsoon Jang, PhD September 10, 2020 Cholsoon Jang, PhD, assistant professor in the UCI School of Medicine, Department of Biological Chemistry, has been awarded an Edward Mallinckrodt, Jr. Foundation Grant. As a Mallinckrodt grant recipient, Jang will receive $60,000 per year for three years, to support his research aimed at elucidating how different organs communicate to maintain metabolic health and how this process is disrupted in cardiovascular disease. Mallinckrodt Grants are awarded annually to support early stage investigators engaged in biomedical research that has the potential to significantly advance the understanding, diagnosis, or treatment of disease. Each year recipients are selected based on their based on their proposals and only two candidates from any institution are considered per cycle. Jang received his PhD in biomedical science from Harvard University, and trained at Princeton University as a postdoc in quantitative biology/analytical chemistry. He joined UCI School of Medicine in May.
