UCI takes the lead in FLASH research
Under the leadership of Charles Limoli, MD, the Department of Radiation Oncology continues to investigate the potential promise of ultra-high-dose-rate radiation (“FLASH”) to overcome tumor resistance and eliminate side effects. UCI is home to the only P01 multi-institutional grant awarded by the National Institute of Health to study FLASH and has developed collaborations around the world to advance this science.

Study touts new method to reduce cognitive side effects of brain cancer radiation treatment
In hopeful news for brain cancer patients, researchers from UCI led by Charles Limoli, PhD, in collaboration with investigators from the University of Lausanne in Switzerland, have discovered how an experimental technology called FLASH radiotherapy dramatically reduces the adverse cognitive side effects unleashed by traditional radiation treatments.
