New UCI Radiology Clinical Faculty

Mahbod Jafarvand, MD

Mahbod Jafarvand joined our Nuclear Medicine faculty team in July. She came to UCI from UCLA, where she was chief resident. Jafarvand received her medical degree from Iran University of Medical Sciences. She is excited to bring her enthusiasm for teaching and research to UC Irvine.

Brian Yep, MD

Brian Yep was a UCI Radiology fellow who joined the Neuroradiology faculty team. Yep also did his Diagnostic Radiology residency with us at UC Irvine and was named our chief resident during that time. He received his medical degree from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in Chicago, Illinois. Yep has a clinical interest in spine imaging and hopes to contribute to the success of future radiology residents as a new faculty member.

Hanna Liu, MD

Hanna Liu is an alumna of UC Irvine and returns to us as one of our newest members of the Breast Imaging faculty team. Liu completed her fellowship at UCLA and received her medical degree from UC Irvine. Along with her professional experience, Liu brings a passion for teaching and hopes to contribute to the success of our residency program at UC Irvine.

Yousuf Qaseem, MD

Yousuf Qaseem, MD, joined our Interventional Radiology faculty team in August. Qaseem was an interventional radiology chief resident at UC San Diego and received his medical degree from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. He joins us with a strong background in clinical knowledge and a passion for teaching the next generation of radiologists.

April Ballard, MD

April Ballard was a former UC Irvine diagnostic radiology resident who joined our Breast Imaging faculty team in August. Ballard received her medical degree from FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine in Miami, Florida, and just completed a fellowship at the University of Southern California. She is excited to continue her journey into academic medicine through teaching and training the future residents that go through our program.

Tariq Hameed, MD

Tariq Hameed, who comes from Indiana University School of Medicine, joins our Cardiothoracic Imaging faculty team. Hameed has decades of experience as a radiologist and mentor to trainees. He is interested in renal stone imaging and imaging for TAVR and the aorta, both of which are interlinked with his expertise in computed tomography. We are excited to have Hameed join our department and look forward to all the future success he will continue to have here at the UCI School of Medicine.

Cato Chan, MD

Cato Chan will be joining our CTVI faculty team in August. Chan is coming to us from his fellowship at UCLA. He finished up his residency at Cedars Sinai Medical Center and received his medical degree from Keck School of Medicine at UCLA. He hopes to refine his skills as a clinician, educator and researcher with us at UC Irvine.
