Julie Youm, PhD, Receives 2025 GIR Vince Sheehan Service Award

Julie Youm, PhD, associate dean of education compliance and quality at the UC Irvine School of Medicine and director of educational technology for the Office of Medical Education, was recently awarded the 2025 GIR Vince Sheehan Service Award by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Group on Information Resources (GIR).

Presented annually at the Information Technology in Academic Medicine Conference, the GIR Vince Sheehan Service Award recognizes an individual for their exceptional service, leadership and long-standing contributions to the AAMC GIR community. Since its inception in 2018, the award has celebrated individuals whose work has made a lasting impression on academic medical center information technology and its role in advancing medication education.

An Apple Distinguished Educator, Youm is a long-time contributor to the GIR community and has played a pivotal role in bridging the worlds of technology and medical education throughout her career. Her leadership includes serving as chair of the national GIR Steering Committee (2022-23), the MedBiquitous Educational Methodology Work Group, and the Western Group on Educational Affairs (WGEA) Computer Resources in Medical Education (CRIME) Interest Group (2017-19); co-chair of the national GIR Education Technology Work Group; and mentor for the GIR Mentorship Circle Program. Over the years, Youm also served as the GIR Liaison to the national GEA Steering Committee.
