Congratulations to the Recipient of the Gazzaniga Family Medical Research Award Posted: 2026-01-07 Source: Graduate Studies News Type: Features & Briefs share This year’s recipient of the Gazzaniga Family Medical Research Award, which comes with $6,000 in support, is Alisa Mahieu, Department of Biological Chemistry; Co-PIs Selma Masri, PhD, and Nicholas Pannunzio, PhD. Selection was based on Mahieu’s cumulative research accomplishments, promising research, leadership, and enthusiasm for discovery and scientific advancement in circadian disruption in colorectal cancer delineating involved molecular mechanisms. This award represents a commitment by retired UC Irvine cardio-thoracic surgeon Dr. Alan Gazzaniga to fund graduate student research. Now in its ninth year, this merit-based award supports a PhD student at the School of Medicine with outstanding academic credentials and a promising biomedical study underway.
