UC PRIME Statewide Conference

Redefining Innovation, Service and Equity: RISE for Our Communities!

February 7–9, 2025

Join us for the 2025 UC PRIME Statewide Conference, hosted by UC Irvine School of Medicine! This year's conference will feature networking socials, keynote speakers, poster sessions, an art gallery walk, and education sessions and workshops.

Marco Angulo, MD, MA
Marco Angulo, MD, MA
  • Medical Director, Institute for Health Equity, AltaMed Health Services

Marco Angulo is the Medical Director of the Institute for Health Equity at AltaMed Health Services, where he leads initiatives focused on workforce development, training and specialty programs designed to address health disparities. Born and raised in East Los Angeles to Mexican immigrant parents, Dr. Angulo brings a profound personal commitment to serving medically underserved communities across Southern California.
 

He earned his bachelor of arts in chicano studies from the University of California, Berkeley, followed by a master’s in social science and a doctor of medicine from the University of California, Irvine. He was selected for UCI’s Program in Medical Education for the Latino Community (PRIME-LC), a pioneering program that develops physician leaders to address disparities in Latino health. He completed his Family Medicine Residency at UCI, where he later served as a faculty member, Director of Diversity and Inclusion and Director of the PRIME-LC Residency Program.
 

Prior to joining AltaMed, Dr. Angulo served as Chief Medical Officer of a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Santa Ana, where he developed programs to improve access to care for underserved populations. Since joining AltaMed, he has created innovative educational initiatives, including pipeline programs, medical residencies, and fellowships to train and retain diverse healthcare professionals committed to equity-driven care.
 

Dr. Angulo has received numerous accolades for his work, including the ARIISE Award from UCI Health for creating a health navigation program tailored to FQHC needs, the AAFP/Bristol-Myers Squibb Award for Excellence in Graduate Medical Education and induction into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. He was also named Clinician of the Year by the Association of Clinicians for the Underserved and received the Gary S. Nye Award for Physician Health and Well-Being from the California Medical Association.
 

As Medical Director, Dr. Angulo oversees efforts to eliminate health disparities through strategic initiatives, clinical education programs and advocacy efforts. His work continues to inspire and mentor the next generation of healthcare leaders, emphasizing the importance of culturally competent care and innovative solutions to improve health outcomes for underserved populations.

Dedra Beckles, MD

  • Chief Executive Officer & President, Divinely Restored Health & Wellness

Dedra Beckles, CEO and founder of Divinely Restored Health & Wellness, is a board-certified family physician. She obtained her bachelor of science degree from UCLA and her medical degree from UC Irvine and completed her residency at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center.

Dr. Beckles has been practicing medicine since 2002 during which time she spent 16 years in corporate medicine as a physician lead at Optum Medical Group before pivoting into the community medicine space. She is a well-regarded thought leader and a passionate stakeholder in the advancement of health equity. She specializes in the delivery of culturally responsive healthcare across all areas of family medicine.

When she is not advocating for patients, Dr. Beckles enjoys traveling internationally and spending time with her husband, daughters and granddaughter.
