Biography
Donghui Zhu, PhD, FAHA, FAIMBE, is the SUNY Empire Innovation Professor at Stony Brook University, where he leads research aimed at developing clinical solutions for regenerative medicine, skeletal and cardiovascular disease, and aging and dementia. His work combines advances in biomaterials, immunoengineering and neuroengineering to address critical challenges in these areas. Dr. Zhu is widely recognized for pioneering biodegradable and bioresorbable implants for therapeutic applications and tissue regeneration.
With nearly 15 years of experience, Dr. Zhu has trained over 30 graduate students in his lab, with more than half from underrepresented backgrounds. His previous roles included Associate Chair for Graduate Studies and Interim Graduate Program Director, focused on cultivating future talents in biomedical research and education. Currently, he serves as Director and Principal Investigator of Stony Brook’s Biotechnology Training Program, where he is dedicated to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in translational research education.
