Bio

My name is Shady (rhymes with Madi), and I am originally from Egypt. I graduated with a BS in Biological Sciences from USC. Since joining UCI, I have been deeply involved in mentorship and education, which have become the overarching themes of my journey thus far. I firmly believe that to become an approachable and successful mentor and educator, one must first understand their own limitations and struggles. This self-awareness helps in guiding others to overcome their challenges. Medical school is undoubtedly challenging, but it can also be one of the most enjoyable experiences with the right support and guidance. My mentorship style focuses on helping mentees identify their strengths, set tangible goals, and receive constant affirmation for their efforts. I strive to lead with kindness and an open mind, understanding that medical school is not a one-size-fits-all experience. It is crucial for me to learn how my mentees best internalize information and adapt my strategies to meet their individual needs. I am excited to serve as your Step 2 Co-director for the upcoming year and look forward to working with many of you to help you succeed!
