Santosh Patel, MD, MBA

Bio

Santosh Patel, MD, MBA is the medical director of the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) at the Addiction Alliance of Georgia and an assistant professor of psychiatry & behavioral sciences at Emory University. Patel’s role as an addiction psychiatrist at Emory Healthcare involves overseeing and growing the intensive outpatient services. He has been pivotal in standing up the programs that now treat patients around the community through an intensive treatment course involving group therapy, individual therapy and medication management.

Patel is actively involved in education and has received teaching awards for his work with medical students. He has also been invited to speak at international medical conferences to other physicians and healthcare professionals about the evaluation and treatment of substance use disorder. Patel’s research interests focus on identifying and preventing substance use disorders and developing evidence-based treatments centered on improving patient engagement and preventing return to use. He is currently a co-investigator on a NIDA-funded UH3 award investigating a novel approach to managing opioid withdrawal symptoms.
