Nolan Huck

Hi Everyone! My name is Nolan, and I am from Healdsburg, CA, in beautiful wine country. I took five gap years working in research and as a medical scribe before matriculating to UCISOM. I am currently in my graduate school phase pursuing a PhD in neuroscience, studying retinal degeneration in spinocerebellar ataxia type 7. My specialty interests are ophthalmology, anesthesia into pain medicine, ENT, trauma surgery and critical care.

My study habits were centered around using in-house Anki decks for MS1, supplementing with Anking and practicing questions. I also found extreme value in having a group of people to study with, quizzing each other on questions and hearing others' explanations. I loved anatomy and would use the actual body as my mental map and reinforce it with Anki. I experimented a lot during MS1, attending lectures and reviewing slides, but quickly found watching recorded lectures, studying on my own time with Anki, study groups and doing questions were the most valuable.
