Luther Philaya, MD

Luther Philaya MD (Dr Luther) is a graduate of the University of Minnesota Medical School and is board certified in family medicine through the ABFM as well as addiction medicine through the ABPM. He has over 30 years of practice in various settings, including rural family practice, emergency medicine, clinical informatics and, most recently, addiction medicine. 

Luther enjoys working with patients no matter where they are on their recovery journey and brings his relational style of practice to Hazelden-Betty Ford’s clients. He has an ongoing commitment to fighting the stigma against substance use disorder. His goal with each patient is to provide a welcoming, non-judgmental clinical environment. He has a special interest in guiding health care professionals through the often-difficult recovery journey, using his own lived experience to provide support and hope to them. 

Outside of medicine Luther enjoys spending time with his wife and sharing many of their similar interests including music, kayaking, skiing, and biking as well as time with their adult children, grandsons, and canines.
