Hey everyone! I’m Chika, an MS4 LEAD-ABC Scholar who is interested in emergency medicine. I was born and raised in SoCal, and I graduated from Long Beach State in 2017 with a BS in biology. I also took two gap years to scribe, volunteer and shadow in the hospital. Some of my hobbies are playing the piano, designing various things in ProCreate or Canva and binge-watching reality TV shows. I am really big on mentorship because I want to help others avoid the mistakes I made. Throughout my time in medical school, I have struggled academically and even wondered if I was supposed to be here. Many of you might have these same thoughts at some point during medical school, and I want to be able to share my experiences and support you through these thoughts/feelings. Being a medical student can feel paradoxical at times because you feel like you should immediately be good at everything, even though you are a student who is still training. Even now, as an MS4, I am still trying to get comfortable with not knowing everything all the time. Remember, you are definitely meant to be here, and the knowledge will come! Studying can be very draining, which is why I take time for my hobbies or go hangout with family and friends. So whether you want to talk about study strategies, need someone to talk to or just wanna grab a meal to take your mind off medical school, I am here and happy to support you as an MSAT and the Assistant Director of Apollo!
