Bio

Hi everyone! My name is Alison, and I am an MS2 currently interested in emergency medicine, oncology and cardiology (who knows!). I grew up in Roscoe, IL and went to Augustana College for undergrad, where I majored in biology and gender studies. While there, I served as a reading/writing tutor, volunteered with a prison education program, worked as an EMT and did breast cancer research. I believe learning is a highly fluid and individual process! Personally, I approached each subject in MS1 differently based on how I could best connect the information in my brain. For anatomy, I used Anki and focused on how structures fit together relationally. For topics like physio and neuro, I drew a lot of pictures and concept maps. I firmly believe that learning to care for yourself is one of the most important learning curves in med school. For me, this meant gaining a bunch of new hobbies, including camping, rock climbing and gardening! My best advice is to do whatever fills your cup and brings you closer to others.
