You will need to apply separately to each program as they are two distinct internal medicine residency programs. Apply to Orange Program Apply to Irvine Program Is your program ACGME accredited? The program is ACGME accredited as of 2025. How much vacation time do residents get? Residents have four weeks of vacation per year which are scheduled in one- or two-week blocks during their elective time. How many residents are accepted per year? Each class will be composed of 18 residents. What should I expect during the residency interview day? To support our mission of recruiting a diverse and well-rounded class, all our interview days will be virtual and conducted over Zoom. The interview day will run in the afternoon for about three hours with multiple information sessions about the program as well as one faculty interview and one individual clinical scenario session, designed to understand your communication style. Do you offer preliminary (one-year) positions? No, we are not offering any preliminary positions. Do you have a USMLE/COMLEX score cutoff? We do not have a specific USMLE/COMLEX score cutoff. Our residency selection process employs a holistic approach to review the entire application. Do you sponsor visas? J1 visa sponsorship is possible and each case will be reviewed individually. What is your call schedule like? Our hospitals operate with a night float system, thus there are no 24-hour calls on the trainee schedules. Each rotation is assigned exclusively to day or night shift. There is also no at-home call. Is moonlighting allowed? Our program allows third-year residents in good academic and professional standing to moonlight as long as they are able to keep up with required residency duties without violation of duty hours. Currently, there are no internal moonlighting opportunities. There is a strict moonlighting policy, and any moonlighting must still not exceed duty hours. What challenges do you see as a new program? As a brand-new residency, our biggest challenge is also our greatest strength: we’re building our culture and traditions from the ground up. Without decades of “the way it’s always been,” we have the freedom to innovate, adapt and design training that meets the needs of today’s residents. Our founding classes will help shape the identity of the program, supported by dedicated faculty and strong mentorship every step of the way. Do you have rotations at Orange? UC Irvine–Irvine residents will have both inpatient and elective experiences at the Orange medical campus. This includes cardiology, neurology, as well as others. Residents of both internal medicine programs will learn together through many shared didactic sessions as well as combined rotations. What is the team structure? On the primary inpatient wards service, teams are composed of one senior resident and two interns. Is it ok not to signal the program, since my application was submitted after all signals have been used? Yes, we understand that the program was a late addition to ERAS, and we do not expect program signaling.
