Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP)


The Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) is designed to train individuals who can both advance scientific research and apply those discoveries to medical care.

This dual-degree program supports students through the rigorous journey of earning both an MD and a PhD, offering:

  • Comprehensive support throughout the program
  • Flexibility to pursue PhD studies in any graduate program at the university
  • A strong foundation in both clinical practice and scientific investigation

Affiliated Scholar Advancement Program (ASAP)


The ICTS ASAP provides various levels of support for UCI junior faculty, residents, fellows and medical students to advance their research careers.

The MSRP provides UCI medical students the opportunity to develop insight and understanding of translational biomedical research through completion of a mentored scholarly project.  This program is offered by UCI’s Institute for Clinical and Translational Science (ICTS).
