The Stroke and Vascular Neurology Fellowship program provides comprehensive training in cerebrovascular disorders with a balanced curriculum to meet both the accreditation requirements and the fellow’s individual career interests.

Training is based at UCI Medical Center, the first Joint Commission-certified Comprehensive Stroke Center in Orange County. The hospital is equipped with advanced neuroimaging capabilities, including 3-Tesla MRA and 64-slice CT scanners with 24/7 access and neurointerventional capabilities. The hospital has a dedicated neuroscience ICU and a neuroscience step-down unit for acute stroke care, in addition to an acute inpatient rehabilitation unit.

Fellows have access to a faculty of fellowship-trained, board-certified vascular neurologists, board-certified neurointensivists, neurointerventionalists and cerebrovascular surgeons. In addition to inpatient stroke/telestroke and neurocritical care rotations, the fellow can complete rotations in a variety of other electives, including neuroradiology and neurointerventional and stroke rehabilitation services. Numerous other electives in other non-cerebrovascular-related neurologic subspecialties can be arranged based on the fellow’s career interests. The fellow will also spend one half day per week in the outpatient UC Irvine stroke clinic, providing outpatient continuity care and sharpening their skills in the outpatient management of patients with cerebrovascular conditions. Clinical and bench research opportunities are available.

The Stroke and Vascular Neurology Fellowship accepts applications through ERAS and NRMP. Applicants must have completed neurology residency and have a California medical license prior to the July 1 program start date.
