It covers the following topics for safely entering an operational BSL-3 laboratory: Risk assessment Introduction to Microbiology Biosafety PPE Use Participant inspecting seals of laboratory penetrations Participant using NIST Certified equipment to verify differential pressure Participant performing visual inspections as part of the facility verification process Slide 1 Slide 2 Slide 3 The course focuses on the ANSI/ASSE Z9.14 Standard, the only document available that provides a prescriptive approach to conducting BSL-3 facility verification. Participants will gain the knowledge and skills needed to understand and apply the ANSI Z9.14 BSL-3 testing and verification standard on new and existing BSL-3 facilities. Through a combination of didactic and practical instruction, the course guides participants to work in teams to carry out essential procedures outlined in the ANSI Z9/14 standard, including document reviews, visual inspections, normal inspections, and failure testing at our BSL-3 Laboratory Training Center. Together, participants will utilize their practical findings to conduct risk assessments and evaluate facility suitability for work with Risk Group 3 infectious materials.
