Kidney Transplant Program Our kidney transplant program is Orange County’s oldest and largest, offering both living and deceased donor transplants to patients with chronic kidney disease. It is one of the fastest-growing kidney and pancreas transplant programs in California. The program had top Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients outcomes in the United States in January 2023. The UC Irvine transplant program is partnered with the National Kidney Registry to expand living kidney donation and is a MediCAL-designated National Center of Excellence for Kidney and Pancreas Transplantation. Transplantation Program Leadership: Uttam Reddy, MDEkamol Tantisattamo, MDRobert Redfield III, MD, FACS Explore the program UC Irvine Center for Glomerular Disease The UC Irvine Center for Glomerular Disease is dedicated to providing superior, specialized, and patient-centered treatment for glomerular and rare kidney diseases, including but not limited to IgA nephropathy, focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), membranous nephropathy, C3 glomerulopathy and minimal change disease. The center serves as a hub of innovation, research and education, advancing medical knowledge and translating cutting-edge discoveries into improved patient outcomes. Our comprehensive clinical services include state-of-the-art diagnostics, kidney biopsy and renal pathology, genetic testing and counseling, renal dietitian support and kidney transplant. We collaborate closely with a wide range of specialties at UC Irvine, including but not limited to rheumatology, infectious diseases, reproductive health, urology (including female urology), integrative medicine, gastroenterology, hepatology, hematology and oncology. Our robust research program focuses on glomerular diseases, ranging from translational research to clinical trials. We actively partner with organizations such as the National Kidney Foundation (NKF), NephCure, IgA Nephropathy Foundation and the NEPTUNE Network. Center Leadership Ramy Hanna, MDYongen Chang, MD, PhD UC Irvine Comprehensive Hypertension Center Led by Division of Nephrology & Hypertension faculty member Ekamol Tantisattamo, MD, the Comprehensive Hypertension Center earned this designation from the American Heart Association in 2021. The multidisciplinary team includes a physician, a pharmacist and a dietitian, and manages people with complex or difficult-to-treat hypertension following the latest evidence-based treatment guidelines. UC Irvine is one of only three healthcare facilities in California that has a comprehensive hypertension center.
