Nuestra Familia

With 90% of our students identifying as Latino and the majority coming from under-resourced backgrounds, they are driven by a passion to advance healthcare in underserved communities.

From day one through graduation, PRIME-LC connects students with an active network of alumni, faculty and supporters who offer guidance, community and the enrichment needed to thrive as future physicians.

A
The sense of familia within PRIME-LC is genuinely like no other. Medical school was full of challenges, and my fellow Primers were always the first people I would contact whenever I had good or bad experiences to share. We built collective hope, inspiration, frustrations, resiliency and laughter. You don't come out of PRIME-LC as the same person that came in — you come out better, and it's because of everyone around you! -—Jenny Ventura, former PRIME-LC Student

PRIME-LC began in the summer of 2004 with eight medical students. We have now graduated more than 180 outstanding physicians.

The most common residency programs chosen by our PRIME-LC graduates are Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Med-Peds, OB/GYN, Pediatrics, Psychiatry and Surgery. Other specialties include Anesthesiology, Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology, Plastic Surgery, Radiology and Urology.

PRIME-LC became my home and family, where I received the support and training to achieve my dream to serve my community. With the skills and connections I developed — both as a medical student and in the PRIME-LC Family Medicine Residency Program — I’ve helped to develop the Health Scholars Program, a health professionals pre-med program mentoring more than 100 students in clinical and service-oriented projects in the highest-need areas of Orange County. I put my training to work every day and help to support the next generation of PRIME-LC students forge their own paths. -—Marco Angulo, MD, MA, PRIME-LC Class of 2011
