Residents gain experience in providing anesthesia care for orthopedics, gynecology, ENT, neurosurgery, trauma, transplant, vascular and general surgery. In addition, residents rotate in the preoperative clinic, post-anesthesia care unit, intensive care unit and acute pain service to broaden their experiences within perioperative care. Resident training includes specialty rotations at UCI Medical Center and through various healthcare systems such as the VA Long Beach Healthcare System, Rady Children’s Health (formerly Children’s Hospital of Orange County), MemorialCare Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital and Long Beach Medical Center. Fundamental Clinical Skills Education (PGY-1) Rotation Schedule The PGY-1 year aims to prepare residents to be well-rounded perioperative physicians by training them in multiple clinical specialties and providing exposure to diverse clinical settings. Residents rotate at UCI Medical Center and different training sites in four-week blocks, finishing with an anesthesiology rotation to ease their transition into their clinical anesthesia year.
