Spearheaded by Kristen Kelly, MD, and Aditi Sharma, MD, with strong support from UC Irvine School of Medicine Dean Michael Stamos, UCI Health CEO Chad Lefteris and guidance from Beall Applied Innovation, the initiative emerged from the need to foster collaboration between clinicians who identify real-world healthcare challenges and scientists and engineers who can address them. While UC Irvine has long been a leader in translational research through programs like the Institute for Clinical and Translational Science and Beall Applied Innovation, the Clinical Innovation Incubator is the first program specifically dedicated to connecting these disciplines in the early stages of problem-solving. Program Mission The mission of the Clinical Innovation Incubator is to cultivate a culture of cross-disciplinary collaboration that drives practical healthcare solutions. Through a three-part workshop series, clinician-led challenges are presented, teams are formed with scientific and engineering experts, and promising proposals are selected for funding and further development. The program aims to: Generate Novel, Patentable Innovations Enhance Engagement Across UC Irvine's Health and Academic Communities Position UC Irvine as a National Leader in Clinical Innovation and Translational Impact
